Starting a new chapter in life often comes with unexpected challenges and opportunities. For me, the transition from being a player to becoming a coach has been a journey filled with growth, learning, and rediscovery. My story begins with humble steps in coaching youth teams and leads to a fulfilling role at N.G. , where I found a true home in the sport I love.

Early Coaching Experiences at Severn Athletic Club
My coaching journey started at Severn Athletic Club under the guidance of a coach who played a crucial role in my development. He not only helped me improve my skills but also trusted me enough to offer a coaching position for his under-12 girls futsal team. This opportunity was my first real taste of coaching responsibility.
Working with young players taught me valuable lessons about patience, communication, and motivation. I learned how to tailor my approach to different personalities and skill levels. Coaching the U12 girls team was rewarding because I saw firsthand how encouragement and structured training could boost confidence and performance.
Expanding Skills Through Courses and New Roles
Eager to grow, I decided to take formal coaching courses. These classes deepened my understanding of training techniques, player development, and game strategy. With new knowledge, I began training friends and accepted more roles, including coaching and refereeing for the Harundale Elite U8 team.
Refereeing added a new dimension to my perspective. It sharpened my understanding of the rules and the importance of fairness and respect on the field. Balancing coaching and refereeing helped me become a more well-rounded contributor to youth soccer.
Discovering the Real Opportunity with N.G.
While my early coaching roles were valuable, the real turning point came when I joined N.G. in 2023. I had known Coach Gibson since my playing days, and learning under him has been an ongoing privilege. N.G. is more than just a club; it’s a community where fun, learning, and self-expression come together through sport.
At N.G. , I found an environment that supports growth not only as a coach but as a person. The culture encourages creativity in training sessions and values the joy of playing. This atmosphere made it easier to connect with players and help them develop both skills and passion.
Overcoming Challenges and Finding New Purpose
Injuries forced me to stop playing competitively, which was a difficult moment. However, coaching at N.G. gave me a new purpose. Instead of focusing on what I lost, I concentrated on what I could give back. Helping young athletes discover their potential and love for the game has been deeply fulfilling.
This shift from player to coach has taught me resilience and adaptability. It reminded me that setbacks can lead to new beginnings. My journey with N.G. is proof that passion for sport can take many forms.
What Coaching at N.G. Means to Me
Coaching here means more than teaching drills or tactics. It’s about building relationships, inspiring confidence, and creating a positive experience for every player. I see my role as a guide who helps players enjoy the game while improving their abilities.
N.G.’s approach emphasizes balance: hard work combined with fun. This philosophy keeps players engaged and eager to learn. It also fosters a supportive community where everyone feels valued.
Practical Lessons from My Coaching Journey
Start small and build experience: Coaching younger teams helped me develop essential skills gradually.

Looking Ahead: The Journey Continues
My story at N.G. is just beginning. I am excited to keep growing as a coach and to help more players reach their potential. The lessons I’ve learned so far will guide me as I take on new challenges and opportunities.
